WHAT DOES "GOLD PLATED" MEAN ?

Today, "gold" color jewelry have several appellations.

And apart from the massive gold jewelry, you had to hear about the two most often proposed terms: "gold plated" or "golden gold".

But what do they mean exactly? What are the promises of these processes? In this article, I will try to explain the different qualities and I think you are going to be surprised.

Our Orpheus jewelry are 18-carat gold plated with a minimum thickness of 3 microns. I explain why we made this choice and why it will please you.

First the basic material : brass

Before being plated, our rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces are shaped in brass .. Our brass is sourced. This means that we know the traceability of copper and zinc that constitutes its alloy (and yes, the brass is actually an alloy of these 2 materials). It is guaranteed without nickel, without cadmium and lead free to avoid any risk of allergy.

We chose the brass because it is the most used material in jewelry for its analogical qualities and for its solidity and above all, it is a metal that will best host the plating of gold.

Then gold plating (gold plated)

In Orpheus, the brass is covered by electrolysis (also also called galvanoplasty) of a 18-carat gold layer with a thickness of 3 microns minimum, it is therefore good gold plated jewelry.

This certification also goes through a punching. Our jewels are punched, which is not only a proof of plating. It also translates the signature of the company that performs the plating. This one mentions its name, and sometimes indicates the gold carats used. Ex 18 for 18 carats. Thus this company engages with us and ensures its plating with us, from you and also in case of control.

Because there is a definition and legislation concerning the gold and France plating, the legislation imposes a thickness of minimum 3 microns for the benefit of the name "gold plated".

If a jewel is covered only 0.3 / 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 or 2.5 microns, it can not in any case benefit from the "gold plated" name, but it is will act from "gilding".

Thus, the jewel "gilded with fine gold" is a false promise because it is only a simple gilding between 0.3 and 1 micron! The layer is 10 times less thick than for gold plated ..

SO

I hope you understand it, when you choose an orpheated jewel, you bought a jewel at the best quality / price / resistance ratio.

And even if the gold course is just increasing, and that many of our plating partners invite us to reduce our quality, we will remain faithful to our promises to allow you to shine as long as possible !
