Today, "gold" color jewelry has several names.
You must have heard about the 2 most often used terms: "gold plated" or "golden gold".
But what exactly do they mean? What are the promises of these processes? In this article, I will try to explain the different qualities to you and I think you are going to be surprised.
Our jewelry Orphée are plated in 750/1000 gold, with a thickness of 3 microns minimum. I explain why we made this choice and why you will like it.
First the basic material: brass
Before being plated, our rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces are shaped in brass .. (alloy of copper and zinc).
We have chosen the brass because it is the most used material in jewelry for its solidity and above all, it is a metal that will best welcome gold tackling.
Then the gold tackle (= 4 the gold plated)
At the house of Orphée, the brass is tackled by electrolysis (also also called Galvanoplasty) of a layer of 750/1000 gold with a thickness of 3 microns minimum, so these are gold plated jewelry.
This certification also involves punching. Our jewelry is therefore punished, which is proof of tackle. It also translates the signature of the company which makes the tack.

Because there is indeed a definition and legislation concerning the or and in France plating, the legislation requires a thickness of minimum 3 microns to be able to benefit from the "gold plated" appellation.
If a jewel is only covered by 0.3 / 0.5 / 1 / 1.5 / 2 or 2.5 microns, it can in no case benefit from the name "gold plated", but it is will act with "gilding".
Thus, the jewel "golden gold" is a false promise because it is only a simple gilding between 0.3 and 1 micron! The layer is therefore as many times thicker as for the gold plated.
